Lipopolysaccharide and ARDS caused by new coronavirus infection: hypotheses and facts

Abstract: This review presents data from the literature that provide insight into the role of the lipopolysaccharide (LPS) of the Gram-negative bacteria in pathogenesis of acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) caused by the novel SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus infection. ARDS is a syndrome of severe respiratory failure, an acutely occurring diffuse inflammatory lesion of lung tissue that develops as a nonspecific reaction to various direct (aspiration, inhalation of toxic gases), and systemic (sepsis, polytrauma) damaging … Show more

“…The estimated severity of ARDS is based on the degree of oxygenation disorder (hypoxemia): mild: 200 mmHg < PaO2/FiO2 ≤ 300 at MPC or CPAP ≥ 5 cm of water; moderate: 100 mmHg < PaO2/FiO2 ≤ 200 at MPC or CPAP ≥ 5 cm of water. severe: PaO2/FiO2 ≤ 100 at MPC or CPAP ≥ 5 cm of water [15]. The initial stage of ARDS development is the activation of alveolar macrophages with the release of pro-inflammatory components: a group of interleukins, including IL 6,8, tumor necrosis factor-alpha, a group of chemoattractants that stimulate the movement of monocytes and neutrophils from the blood through the endothelium and alveolar epithelium against the background of a systemic inflammatory reaction and increased vascular permeability [16,17].…”

“…For this reason, in recent years, scientific research has been devoted to the study of the quality of inpatient care for the population. Another serious issue is the assessment of patient satisfaction with the medical services provided, which is receiving increasing attention, as it is considered one of the most important issues of modern public health [15].…”
