Linking Group Theory to Social Science Game Theory: Interaction Grammars, Group Subcultures and Games for Comparative Analysis

Abstract: This article draws on earlier work in social system theorizing and analysis-in particular, the theory of social rule systems. On the basis of this foundational work, its aim is to systematically link theories of social groups and organizations, on the one hand, and social science game and interaction theory, on the other hand. Rule system theory has contributed to significant features of group theory and social science game theory. It is a cultural-institutional approach to conceptualizing group systems and ga… Show more

“…Shakespeare [47] and many other researchers [48][49][50][51] emphasized usability, feasibility, accuracy, adequacy, meaningfulness, validity, verifiability, connectivity, and sensitiveness. In addition, Burns et al [52] and Kwak [53] presented organization's mission, expertise, experience, and stakeholder coordination, confidence recovery, representative democracy healing, and problem-solving skills. In these backgrounds, we selected the four factors, 'accountability', 'problem-solving ability', 'connectivity', and 'professionality', as sub-factors of service administration on the social system.…”

“…Not all games are necessarily well-defined with, for instance, clearly specified and consistent norms and roles and role relationships. Many such situations can be described and analyzed in "open game" terms (Burns et al 2017). 28 Given an interaction situation S t in context t (time, space, social and physical environment), some rules and subcomplexes of the general game structure G(t) are activated and implemented or realized.…”

“…Or, the action determination subcomplex DET does not fit actions in ACT, for instance, DET-II is a maximization rule or algorithm but acts or their outcomes are not characterized by cardinal values; so, an application is not possible. lFor a consideration of rule incompatibility and its consequences as well as the way it arises, for instance, as a result of reforming one rule subcomplex without adjustment or modification of other related subcomplexes; see Burns et al (2017).…”
