Life-History Parameters of the Colorado Potato Beetle,Leptinotarsa decemlineata, on Seven Commercial Cultivars of Potato,Solanum tuberosum

Abstract: The Colorado potato beetle, Leptinotarsa decemlineata (Say) (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae), is an important pest of potato, Solanum tuberosum L. (Solanales: Solanaceae), crops in the Ardabil region of Iran. In this research, the life-history parameters of L. decemlineata were investigated on seven potato cultivars, namely Agria, Aozonia, Diamant, Cosmus, Kondor, Morene, and Savalan, in a greenhouse at 23 ± 1° C and 55 ± 5% RH under a natural photoperiod. The results indicated that the development time of larvae w… Show more

“…Furthermore, Yaşar and Güngör (2005) reported juvenile mortalities substantially higher than those observed in the present study -twice as high on Agria and three times as high on Marfona. This is also true in Fathi et al (2013) results. Female emergence rate in their study was 50-60% on different cultivars including Agria and Savalan resembling that of the Satina in our study.…”

“…The GRR had a larger value in their study while both r and R 0 were smaller. Net replacement rate estimates were similar for the Agria with Fathi et al (2013) study. The Savalan was the most resistant cultivar based on the results of both studies and the Agria was more susceptible.…”

“…Survival and reproduction, the pillars of fitness along with other life history traits, can be directly translated to demographic properties of a population [19,20,21]. Designed for fundamental ecological research [22], these parameters are frequently used in assessing pest potential to invade other host plants [23,24,25,26] or plant varieties [27,28,29,30,31,32,33,34]. In the field of pest science, the adequate statistical testing and correct interpretation of abovementioned parameters is of paramount importance.…”
