Objetivo. Identificar la influencia de la impulsividad con la práctica del consumo de alcohol y problemas asociados en adolescentes del Ecuador, así como las diferencias por género. Metodología. La investigación presenta un enfoque cuantitativo, de carácter descriptivo, comparativo, correlacional, explicativo y de corte transversal por medio de las escalas de impulsividad de Plutchik y The Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test. Participantes. 770 adolescentes (57.7% hombres, 42.3% Mujeres) entre 12 a 18 años (M=15 años; DT=1.71). Estudiantes de diversas instituciones educativas secundarias (74.3% privado, 24.9% pública y 0.8% Fiscomisional) de 3 provincias del Ecuador. Resultados. La impulsividad es moderada y el consumo de alcohol bajo entre los participantes. Existen diferencias por género. Estas variables se encuentran relacionadas moderadamente entre sí con r= .593; p< .05. Además, la impulsividad predice en un 53.1% los cambios en la varianza. Conclusión. La impulsividad es un indicador significativo para explicar la práctica del consumo de alcohol en adolescentes.

Objective: Establish an explanatory model through latent variables analysis of tobacco consumption based on al- cohol consumption and alcohol consumption based on attitudes towards consumption in a sample of university students in Ecuador. Method: Descriptive correlational and explanatory design using SEM (Structural Equation Mo- deling) techniques. Participants: 546 students (69.2% women) aged between 17 and 41 years old (M= 21.3 years old; SD= 2.6), from four universities (45.1% public ones) in two cities of Ecuador. Results: The predominance of alcohol consumption is high; the prevalence of tobacco consumption is low, and attitudes towards alcohol consumption are ambivalent. Alcohol attitudes predict alcohol consumption (R2= .57) and alcohol consumption predicts tobacco consumption (R2= .26). Attitudes and consumption provide an explanatory model for tobacco consumption with ꭓ2= 662.59; p< .001; df= 480; ꭓ2/gl= 1.4; CFI= .95; TLI= .94; SRMR= .049; RMSEA= .026 [.021 - .031]. Conclusions: The study of attitudes and consumption behaviors are important for a better understanding about alcohol and tobacco consumption in university students.

Forensic Educational Tool as a Teaching Strategy to Face the Growing Alcohol Consumption in the Student Population

Excessive alcohol consumption in adolescence is a worldwide concern because of its numerous negative consequences. It also increases the chance of accidents and may lead to significant impairment of part of the brain, causing learning difficulties. The present work aims to present the development of a forensic educational kit composed of a breathalyzer produced with low cost materials and a colorimetric palette for use in science classes for high school students. The kit’s function is to estimate the ethanol concentration in alcoholic samples. The methodology is based on applied research with a qualitative and quantitative nature guided by an experimental procedure that presents all steps from the construction of the kit to its functionality. It also describes three didactic-pedagogical strategies on how this instrument may be used in the teaching-learning process. The results of this proposal show that, during the operation of the device, it is possible to observe a correlation with physical, chemical, biological, and mathematical concepts involving relations between science, technology, society, and environment (CTSE), which may be approached in a contextualized way and arouse student curiosity. In addition, the topic of this study provides an educational action since it enables a discussion of the impacts of ethanol on the body, raising awareness about the alarming use of alcoholic beverages. The implementation of interdisciplinary activities on the topic here is a fundamental strategy for the education of a citizen capable of developing a critical view of social events and the use of technologies.
