The latter went on to organize a high-profile meeting attended by top executives of WHO, UNICEF, the World Bank, and many other agencies, as well as like-minded persons who called themselves public health scholars, at Bellagio, Italy (63), thus getting a resounding endorsement for SPHC.…”

The experts also seem to have conveniently "forgotten" about the data that had seriously questioned the very bases of the program (54)(55)(56)(57)(58)(59)(60)(61)(62). They, too, seem to have moved on to new pastures, to carry on new crusades.…”

“…A very selective approach giving absolute priority to just a few diseases, although sometimes necessary, has proved unsatisfactory for developing partnership between the service and the public, whether in the context of the colonial and post-colonial mobile teams or in the modern version of selective primary health care (Grosdos and De Béthune, 1988;Unger and Killingsworth, 1986). It does not actually meet perceived needs and leaves people with all the other health problems that affect them, which are more numerous and perhaps more important to them than those of which they are cured.…”
