Lecture capture and peer working: exploring study practices through staff–student partnerships

Abstract: As lecture capture technology and practice become ever more widespread in UK universities there is a growing body of literature that assesses the impact of these changes. However, there is still much to be understood about lecture capture and the full impact on student learning, especially in different institutional and subject contexts. “…Research reveals that students find the system a helpful exam revision aid, allowing them develop study strategies via the ability to rewind, pause, and review recordings at their own pace (Al Nashash, & Gunn, 2013;Dinmore, 2019). Although most research highlights the benefits of the system, there are a number studies emphasizing the disadvantages, including technical difficulties encountered (Al Nashash, & Gunn, 2013;Elliott & Neal, 2016;Evans & Luke, 2020). The research suggests that lecture recording negatively affects the eco-system of the classroom, including the interaction and rapport between students and lecturer, due to the awareness that this interaction is being recorded (Brooks vd., 2014;Dommeyer, 2017;Williams, Aguilar-Roca, & O'Dowd, 2015).…”

However, since the advantages outweigh the disadvantages, many universities seek ways of integrating LC into the teaching -learning process that will maximize benefits to the process (Danielson, Preast, Bender, & Hassall, 2014;Dommett, Gardner, & van Tilburg, 2019;Evans & Luke, 2020). Thus, the purpose of this study is to gain a better understanding of students' EĞİTİM TEKNOLOJİSİ Kuram ve Uygulama purposes in using LC, their perceptions of its usefulness and any constraints regarding the system, and to make suggestions for improvements.…”
