LaSrGaO4 substrate gives oriented crystalline YBa2Cu3O7−y films

Abstract: As-grown YBa2Cu3O7−y (YBCO) thin films of 70 nm thickness have been prepared on LaSrGaO4(001), (100), and (110) single-crystal substrates at 700 °C using ArF laser ablation deposition. The c-axis oriented thin films with smooth surface morphology are obtained on LaSrGaO4 (001) and (100) substrates. The zero resistance temperatures (Tc) of the films on the (001) and (100) substrates are 90.0 K, and 88.1 K, respectively. On the (110) substrate, (110) YBCO planes grow epitaxially. The resistance perpendicular to … Show more

“…Although it is very hard to separate the (h00) peaks of the RBCO phase from those of STO(100) substrates in X-ray dIffraction patterns, those of the RBCO phase grown on LSGO(100) substrates can be clearly observed since the (100) peak of LSGO is forbidden [9][10][11][12]. Therefore the LSGO(100) substrate is very effective for confirming the growth of a-axis oriented RBCO thin fllms.…”

“…Ishimaru et al [5] fabricated Joshepson junctions reproducibly, using c-axis oriented NBCO thin films with smooth surface morphology by focused ion beam technique. Thin films [7][8][9][10][11][12] with a-or b-axis perpendicular to the substrates are (105) also desirable for the fabrication of superconducting devices based on the Josephson junction in view of the highly anisotropic coherence length of high temperature superconductors. Although growth of NBCO thin films with a-axis orientation on SrTiO3 (STO)(100) substrates was reported uniquely by Badaye et al [13], the superconducting transition temperature was not satisfactory compared with that of a-axis oriented YBCO thin films.…”

“…Several ΑΒCO4 compounds such as SrLaGaO4 (SLG) [14], CaΝdAlO 4 (CNA) [15] and 'SrLaΑ1O4 (SLA) [16] have already been used experimentally as substrates for YΒa2Cu3O7-x thin films. For all compounds the {001}ABCO/(001)YBCO has been investigated, while for SrLaGaO4 [14] also (001) SLG /(100) YBCO and {110} SLG /(110) YBCO have been reported.…”

The pseudotetragonal or pseudocubic a-axis lattice spacings offered by these commercial substrates, together with the corresponding lattice spacings of several functional oxides with perovskite and perovskite-related structures, are shown in Fig.…”
