Abstract: About the technique of using transabdominal stay sutures for retraction and stabilization during laparoscopic surgery we would like to make clear that many authors, including us, who have employed this technique for specific procedures have not been mentioned [1]. So we would like to express our opinion, as we were the first to present (in 1997) a novel technique for laparoscopic cholecystectomy, called the "One-wound Muppet's show Technique." The aim of this technique was to reduce the number of access ports … Show more

“…These early data describe single trocar techniques for appendectomy and gallbladder removal [10][11][12]. However, the immediate enthusiasm for the cosmetic advantage offered by this technique disappeared after a small randomized trial did not show any difference in postoperative pain and hospital stay between four trocar and single trocar laparoscopic cholecystectomies, respectively [13]. Additional drawbacks in the early period were an increased incidence of umbilical hernia due to larger incisions at the umbilicus or inappropriate wound closure.…”

“…SILC is considered as a bridge between conventional laparoscopic cholecystectomy (CLC) and NOTES [5]. SILC was first described in 1997 [6], but it remained reserved for selected patients owing to technical difficulties [7,8]. With the advent of more sophisticated instruments, many reports on SILC cholecystectomy have demonstrated its feasibility and wide acceptability [9][10][11].…”

“…This may be achieved using transparietal sling suture, as described earlier for various SILS procedures [10,11,[23][24][25]. These sutures should be placed on the mesentery, the omentum, or only the subserosa on the digestive tract, avoiding intralumenal passage to decrease the risk of contamination.…”
