“…Whereas in OC patients, there were slight variations in the liver enzymes (which were within the normal range). Ratti F, et al 20 2019 Italy Case-matched analysis using propensity scores 104 Laparoscopic series resulted in a statistically significant lower blood loss (p=0.03), minor intraoperative blood transfusions and postoperative blood transfusions.…”

“…Despite this, however, there is no evidence in the literature that the technical feasibility of laparoscopic liver resection is proportional to its clinical benefit. Indeed, paradoxically, recent data suggest that advantages of mini-invasiveness is more detectable in technically demanding procedures-i.e., resections in posterosuperior segments-compared to procedures characterized by a lower complexity-i.e., resections in anterolateral segments (10,11).…”

“…Primary endpoint of the study is to analyze the degree of benefit (differential benefit) (10,11) offered by laparoscopic compared to open surgery in different levels of technical complexity of the laparoscopic approach to define the best areas of its application in liver resections. Secondary endpoint was to confirm that advantages of minimally invasive techniques over the open counterpart are detectable within all levels of complexity and therefore justify, for liver resections, the efforts associated with this approach irrespectively of technical complexity.…”

“…Despite a traditional definition of major hepatectomies, a recent large multicenter study has pointed out the different benefits and outcomes for laparoscopic right and left hemihepatectomies when separately compared with their respective open (10). With an even more focused analysis, we have recently published evidence on a significant differential benefit between laparoscopic anterolateral and posterosuperior resections compared with their open counterparts: while both resulting beneficial when compared to open, the advantages of laparoscopy appear greater for posterosuperior than anterolateral resections despite their technical complexity (11). The degree of advantage provided by laparoscopy has to be studied more in detail for different type of resections, keeping in mind that the most difficult seems to be associated with the greatest clinical benefits.…”
