Abstract: The general kinetic laws relating the changes in reactants and products ratios with changes in the operating conditions of the catalytic epoxidation and hydroxylation reaction of maleic acid by hydrogen peroxide have been analyzed. In the course of the hydroxylation reaction, the formation of epoxysuccinic and tartaric acids, and the decomposition of hydrogen peroxide to molecular oxygen have been observed to take place in parallel.
