Kinetic mixing at strong coupling

Abstract: A common feature of many string-motivated particle physics models is additional strongly coupled U (1)'s. In such sectors, electric and magnetic states have comparable mass, and integrating out modes also charged under U (1) hypercharge generically yields CP preserving electric kinetic mixing and CP violating magnetic kinetic mixing terms. Even though these extra sectors are strongly coupled, we show that in the limit where the extra sector has approximate N = 2 supersymmetry, we can use formal methods from Se… Show more

“…We next consider the reduction of these theories on circles to lower dimensions without flux. This was studied in [13,14,16,[20][21][22]. Generically, when we reduce 6d theories on a circle we can incorporate an holonomy in the global symmetry, and different holonomies can lead to different 5d theories.…”

“…Finally we can decompose SU (2) F to its Cartan U (1) F under which C 2 (SU (2) F ) 2 = −C 1 (U (1) F ) 2 . If we now take C 1 (U (1) F ) = C 1 (R) + 4C 1 (U (1) x ) then equations (21) and (19) match. This suggests that the theory in figure 5 is a deformation of a torus reduction of the SO(16) SCFT with flux 1 2 breaking SO(16) to U (1) × SU (8).…”

“…In order to estimate the effects of millicharges one can proceed as follows: in section II we have seen that the presence of magnetic monopoles in the hidden sector induces the visible charge density (14) which can be interpreted as the millicharge (n=1)…”

“…The basic idea underlying the Kalb-Ramond construction is invariance under reparametrizations in the world-sheet and the extension to higher-dimensional extended objects. Although classically it can be carried out, it has intricate technical, and topological subtleties which began to be studied in [13] and this topic continues to be an area of intense research [14].…”
