“…They also had punctate keratotic and umbilicated papules on the palmar surface ofthe distal digits. These lesions in our cases are similar to those described as keratoderma punctatum (Sweitzer, 1923) or keratodermia maculosa disseminata palmaris et plantaris, which is known to be inherited in an autosomal-dominant fashion (Heierli-Forrer, 1959). In addition to well-defined clinical syndromes (for example, Richner-Hanhart, mal de Meleda, Papillon-Lefevre), keratoderma has been described in association with many different defects (Table i), usually seen in single families and probably representing unique or 'private' genetic mutations.…”

“…The following case is a good example of it and fulfils the criteria for diagnosis postulated by Sweitzer'(1923), who stated that "the true keratoderma punctatum should not show a generalized hyperkeratosis or any erythema at the edges of the lesions." Cleveland White (1930) had a similar case treated by chiropody for twelve years without improvement.…”

“…There is mild acanthosis. The granular layer in the depression may be increased in thick ness [Buchanan, 1963;Coupe and Usher, 1963], normal [Galloway and Adamson, 1918;Sweitzer, 1923] or absent [Brown, 1971;Michael, 1933], When it is absent, the overlying horny layer is usually parakeratotic. Occasionally, an extension of a sweat duct in the underlying dermis is seen travers ing the horny layer [Brown, 1971;Coupe and Usher, 1963;Galloway and Adamson, 1918;Sweitzer, 1923], The dermal papillae are usually normal but may be edematous with dilatation of subjacent small vascular channels [Buchanan, 1963;Coupe and Ush er, 1963], These histologic features are also shared by disseminate PPK [Michael, 1933].…”
