The expansion of oil palm plantations has reaped many damaging accusations, namely as the leading cause of deforestation, and is responsible for the decline in biodiversity. Oil palm cultivation cannot be separated from pest attacks that affect its quality and quantity. Besides being expensive, pesticides can cause environmental damage and decrease palm oil productivity. Therefore, optimizing the utilization of biodiversity in its management is necessary. As insectivores, birds significantly control pests that attack oil palm plants and also have other beneficial roles for oil palm plantations. This study aims to identify the diversity of bird species and the role of various bird species in the oil palm plantation of PT Permata Sawit Mandiri, West Kalimantan. Data were collected using a combination of line transects, point observation methods, and vegetation analysis methods. Meanwhile, data related to the role of birds in oil palm plantations were obtained through a literature study. The total species of birds found in oil palm plantations were 38 species in 6 land cover locations. The highest number of bird species was found in Secondary Forest in block G12 land cover and based on the type of feed, most bird species also found in this land cover (20 species), which acts as natural pollinators, seed dispersers, and pest control. While the least species of birds were found in oil palm with the oldest planting year (3 species). The diversity and the role of bird species found in secondary forests and rubber forests bordering oil palm plantations have the potential to source food, pollination, and pest control for birds in oil palm plantations.

<p>Kopsia pauciflora Hook.f. merupakan tanaman yang berpotensi dikembangkan sebagai tanaman hias karena kemampuannya untuk berbunga sepanjang tahun. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengarakterisasi karakter morfologi dan mempelajari fenologi pembungaan dua aksesi K. pauciflora (bunga putih dan merah muda). Penelitian dilakukan pada tahun 2019 di Kebun Raya Purwodadi, LIPI. Objek pengamatan pada penelitian ini adalah tanaman K. pauciflora yang berbunga putih dan merah muda hasil perbanyakan dari biji yang merupakan koleksi Kebun Raya Purwodadi-LIPI dari Sulawesi Tenggara (lokasi koleksi III G, nomor 33–33a). Karakterisasi dilakukan terhadap karakter morfologi pada organ vegetatif dan generatif, sedangkan pengamatan fenologi pembungaan dilakukan setiap hari selama fase berbunga. Data-data didokumentasi dan dianalisis secara deskriptif. Hasil karakterisasi morfologi menunjukkan bahwa K. pauciflora memiliki habitus perdu pendek dengan perbedaan karakter pada lobus<br />mahkota bunga, warna bunga, warna daun, dan warna buah. Aksesi K. pauciflora yang berbunga putih memiliki karakteristik buah berwarna hijau dan daun muda berwarna hijau muda, sedangkan K. pauciflora yang berbunga merah muda memiliki karakteristik buah berwarna merah tua dan daun muda berwarna kemerahan. Hasil pengamatan fenologi pembungaan menunjukkan bahwa<br />kedua aksesi K. pauciflora dapat berbunga terus sepanjang tahun. Periode fenologi pembungaan K. pauciflora bunga putih memiliki periode fenologi pembungaan 24–26 hari dengan lama mekar 7–9 hari, sedangkan K. pauciflora bunga merah muda sekitar 21–22 hari dengan lama mekar bunga 6 hari. Stadia pembungaan K. pauciflora juga disajikan dalam makalah ini. Kedua aksesi K. pauciflora tersebut sangat berpotensi untuk dikembangkan sebagai tanaman perdu hias dataran rendah.</p>

Trees are the largest carbon stores in tropical forests, where each species has different biomass and carbon sequestration. Information on biodiversity potential is essential for the conservation of endangered species, especially underutilized species, such as Underutilized Fruit Trees (UFTs). These UFTs were collected from various regions in Indonesia, representing trees that generally grow in lowland to mountain forest ecosystems, then these trees were replanted in Cibodas Botanic Gardens and Cibinong Botanic Gardens as living collection. This research aims to determine the role of UFT in ecosystem function as carbon storage. Sampling carried out using a purposive sampling method to determine the UFT species. The allometric equations is used to determine biomass, while to determine carbon content the UFT species analysis using C/N analyzer. The research result show that the highest potential for carbon storage and absorption is found in Castanopsis argentea, while Eugenia uniflora wood has the highest carbon content, namely 45.86%. Syzygium pycnanthum wood has the lowest carbon content (35.76%). Considering the highest potential of UFT as a carbon stock, information about other species of UFTs is important for determining carbon in modelling carbon trading, since this species is widely cultivated on agroforestry land.
