Joint cooperative spectrum sensing and primary user emulation attack detection in cognitive radio networks using fuzzy conditional entropy maximization

Abstract: Cooperative spectrum sensing (CSS) in cognitive radio system shows improved performance on spectrum sensing but, at the same time, faces a common threat called primary user emulation attack (PUEA) that impersonates the primary user (PU). This work explores joint PU and PUEA detection on CSS as a multiclass hypothesis using fuzzy conditional entropy maximization. To meet the goal, a multithreshold approach is suggested using a constrained differential evolution algorithm search to determine an optimal set of fu… Show more

“…12 Though CSS performed by several SUs has the advantage of providing a more reliable decision about the PU, there is also the disadvantage of providing an opportunity for malicious users (MUs) to participate in cooperative sensing. In CRNs, there are two representative kinds of malicious attack, such as, primary user emulation attack (PUEA) where MUs imitates the PU to transmit a signal to mislead the SU's spectrum sensing behavior 13 and spectrum sensing data falsification (SSDF) attack where MUs will send falsified spectrum sensing data to the data fusion center (DFC), and then prevent other SUs from accessing the channel for transmitting data, or induce them to use the channel being utilized by the PU and interfere with it. 14 Among two main threats of CSS, SSDF is of our concern and this attack process is also known as Byzantine attack.…”

Some malicious attacks may enter into the channel, these are reduces the performance of the CSS 23 . Here attacks are affected in CSS due to hidden terminal problem that happens when shadowed the cognitive radio in severe multiple path fading or inside buildings with high penetration loss, while operating near the primary user (PU) 4 .…”
