“…The dynamics of interpretative reflective understanding could in cases where mutual understanding is vital (cases of emergency) be realized in a type of three-stage procedure where first speaker reacts to the reaction of second speaker's reaction to first speaker's expression (Lindgren, Hirsch, and Berggren 2007). This procedure resembles what is referred by Clark (1996) as "grounding" and is deemed to be absolutely essential to successful communication in spoken interaction.…”

“…The fire service uses PPE regularly in high risk and highpressure situations. Few studies have examined the use of Breathing Apparatus (BA) and team functioning, although one study, conducted in Sweden by Lindgren et al (2007), examined team performance, shared understanding and communication between pairs of Fire Fighters wearing breathing apparatus. The study involved the collection of verbal radio communications between firefighters and observations at the Fire Departments training facility (14 exercises).…”

“…The research postulated that 'communal common ground' was formed through teams being trained in the same way and having a common understanding of how fire fighters work and function during emergencies. Lindgren et al (2007) noted changes in communication both between fire fighters during search and rescue and with the BA control officer (who monitors staff in a building, location and time). While BA allows communication via a built-in radio set, the physical demands of the task and need for speed result in a significantly changed communication style.…”

“…aviation (Dekker et al, 2001;Magnusson & Berggren, 2002;Zon et al, 2004;Nählinder et al, 2005), command and control (Svensson et al, 2006;Baber et al, 2010;Essens et al, 2010;Svensson et al, 2010;Thunholm et al, 2011;Banko et al, 2013;Paris et al, 2014), assessment (Nählinder et al, 2004;Castor et al, 2003), fire-fighting (Lindgren et al, 2007), and oxygen saturation (Andersson et al, 2002b) The main part of the work within this thesis has been carried out with the needs of the Swedish Armed Forces in mind. During the late 1990s and until 2007 a large development project was concerned with creating the next generation of command and control systems with concepts such as NEC (Network-Enabled Capability; Alberts, Huber, & Moffat, 2010;Alberts & Hayes, 2003), NCW (Network-Centric Warfare; Alberts, Garstka, & Stein, 1999), and the Swedish equivalent NBF (Nätverksbaserat försvar).…”
