"It's like a rubber duck that talks back": Understanding Generative AI-Assisted Data Analysis Workflows through a Participatory Prompting Study

Figure 1: The turn-taking phase of the participatory prompting method. (1) Mediated prompting: the participant (P, blue) expresses their intent. The researcher (R, red) formulates a prompt based on this intent and a set of pre-prepared prompting strategies, and enters the prompt into the system.
