Isolation and phenotypic characterization of actinomycetes from Rabat neighborhood soil and their potential to produce bioactive compounds

Abstract: This study aimed to examine the isolation of actinomycetes strains from unexplored Rabat neighbourhood soil followed by phenotypic diversity highlight to access their potential as novel bioactive compounds producers. Twenty nine actinomycetes strains were isolated from southeast of Rabat region. Morphological and cultural characterization, pigment production and antibacterial assay were carried out. All isolates (100%) were able to produce at least one non-diffusible pigment depending on the culture media. Twe… Show more

“…The orange color was shown in the ISP2 liquid medium because the cell biomass was still mixed with the medium. Previous reports said that ISP2 is a medium that can be used for pigment production in actinomycetes (Ratte et al 2022) and is the best media for higher pigment production (Ayoubi et al 2018).…”

“…Actinomycetes play a major role in combating various diseases. Earlier exploration has shown actinomycetes having excellent potential to control the growth of pathogens (Ayoubi et al 2018). In our study, a total of 240 endophytic actinomycetes were isolated and screened for their antimicrobial activities, out of which 77 actinomycetes showed the antimicrobial property.…”

“…For the isolation of rhizosphere bacteria, one gram of soil was dissolved in 9 mL of PBS. The tube was left in incubation for 15 min at 70 °C, after which 100 µL were inoculated in AFM, ACA, AEL, ISP2, and ISP4 agar, supplemented with 50 µg/mL nalidixic acid and 50 µg/mL cyclohexamide and incubated at 28 °C for three weeks [ 20 , 21 ]. Isolated colonies were preserved in GYM Streptomyces broth, supplemented with 30% glycerol at −70 °C, until use.…”
