Isobaric Vapor–Liquid Equilibria for Binary Mixtures of 2-Phenylethanol with 1-Phenylethanol, 2-Phenylpropan-2-ol, Ethylbenzene, and Isopropylbenzene at 101.3 kPa

Abstract: The isobaric binary vapor–liquid equilibrium (VLE) data for the mixture of 2-phenylethanol (2PEA) with 1-phenylethanol (1PEA), 2-phenylpropan-2-ol (2P2P), ethylbenzene (ETB), and isopropylbenzene (IPB) is generated at 101.3 kPa. The Fredenslund test and Redlich–Kister area test methods were used to confirm the consistency of the measured VLE experimental data. Subsequently, the data sets are correlated by the nonrandom two-liquid (NRTL) and universal quasi-chemical (UNIQUAC) thermodynamic models, and the binar… Show more

“…The binary systems of STOX + 1PEA and STOX + 2P2P are close-boiling mixtures. 33 In order to avoid using energy-intensive distillation schemes to separate STOX and then hydrogenating STOX to produce 2PEA, novel reaction-separation networks are proposed for manufacturing 2PEA using a scheme wherein a hydrogenated mixture can be subjected to distillation (see Figures 13 and 14). In this case, conventional distillation can be employed to separate 2PEA from the aralkyl alcohols mentioned above.…”

“…In addition, the test on the thermodynamic consistency based on the methodology proposed by Redlich and Kister 47 was performed for all the obtained experimental data. This test was chosen to verify the thermodynamic consistency of the experimental data because of its wide use in the literature, for instance in the works by Martin et al, 48 Vargas et al, 49 Parsana et al 50 and Das et al 51 The area test has been chosen also because it does not require (and the results do not depend on) any thermodynamic model, differently from a point-to-point test.…”
