“…Compared with traditional feeding practices, NEWSUP improved working memory among children younger than 4 in the intention-to-treat analysis, and in the predefined per protocol analysis of the children who consumed at least 75% of their supplement (rate ratio 1.25, 95% confidence interval 1.06 to 1.47). Furthermore, the effects seemed to be unrelated to changes in hemoglobin, a finding that is consistent with previous documentation of no effect of supplementary iron on working memory in children with anemia 105. Working memory is a core executive function, making this an important benefit for children’s education and national development.…”
