Investigation of structural and electronic properties of graphene oxide

Abstract: The local atomic structure of graphene oxide has been probed using synchrotron radiations. Detailed investigations of recently proposed simplistic model of graphene oxide using x-ray absorption near edge spectroscopy have been performed. X-ray diffraction measurements and calculations indicate loss of coherence between graphene-like layers. However, larger in-plane structural coherence is understood to be present. Selected area electron diffraction measurements indicate the presence of graphitic regions in gra… Show more

“…5 three peaks are prominent in all four spectra obtained. The sharp absorption peak at 233 nm and a broad shoulder peak at 280-290 nm are agree with reported UV absorption for normal graphene oxide sheets [39]. The absorption peak at 233 nm is attributed to → * transition of the C C on the graphene oxide sheets.…”

“…(8a), maximum absorbance was obtained at about 230 nm, corresponding to π-π * transition of aromatic C=C bonds, and shoulder peak at ~295 nm represented n-π* transitions of C-C bonds. The spectrum obtained is in agreement with the previously reported results [10][11] . Fig.…”

“…6. A general increase in the absorbance profile was observed across the wavelengths in aged-GO, while the intensity of absorbance at 232 nm, corresponding to the π → π* transition, remained unchanged [39].…”
