“…As well known in EVOH, the insertion of ethylene sequences into vinyl alcohol segments reduces the barrier property to a certain extent and disrupts the compact packing of vinyl alcohol segments 11,12 . But insertion of ethylene segments can effectively improve the thermal stability of vinyl acohol segments which caused by the narrow processing window and the degradation temperature is closed to melting temperature 13–15 . Based on these, researchers have revealed that the thermal degradation mechanism of polyhydroxy polymers has been proved 10,16–18 : below 300°C, the primary degradation product was H 2 O resulting from the removal of hydroxyl groups to form double carbon bonds and carbonyl groups; the conjugated double bonds would be formed on the main chain of EVOH molecule, resulting in the discoloration of EVOH and the changes of crystallinity and melting point 19–21 .…”
