Abstract: Abstract Cyclobutane tetracarboxylic acid dianhydrides, which were prepared via photodimerization of maleic anhydride or methylmaleic anhydride, gave high molecular weight film‐forming polyimides with oxydianiline. The resulting polyimides were found to be photosensitive, presumably because of retrocyclization of the cyclobutane ring.
