Abstract: Background Little is known about the relationship between intrinsic cardiac nerve activity (ICNA) and spontaneous arrhythmias in ambulatory animals. Methods and Results We implanted radiotransmitters to record extrinsic cardiac nerve activity (ECNA, including stellate ganglion nerve activity, SGNA; vagal nerve activity, VNA) and ICNA (including superior left ganglionated plexi nerve activity, SLGPNA; ligament of Marshall nerve activity, LOMNA) in 6 ambulatory dogs. Intermittent rapid left atrial pacing was p… Show more

The LA FAPs are usually located in four areas: (1) LAA ridge FAP area (between LAA and left PVs); (2) superior left FAP area; (3) inferoposterior FAP area; and (4) anterior right FAP area (Figure 4).…”

“…It has been demonstrated that the autonomic nervous system plays a vital role in the modulation of cardiac arrhythmias, from sudden cardiac death to AF. 19 Increased stellate ganglia sympathetic nerve activity has been demonstrated to be associated with atrial arrhythmias 20 but requires invasive measurements to elucidate. Skin sympathetic nerve activity is a potential marker of stellate ganglia activity.…”

“…Also, this technique could be more effective in ablating epicardially located GP than a percutaneous approach. However, there is no Reprinted from Choi et al 9 with permission. houstonmethodist.org/debakey-journal randomized study defining the benefit of GP ablation in minimally invasive surgical ablation, whereas several studies using PV isolation with GP ablation reported 1-year AF-free survival rates of 65% to 81%.…”
