Intra‐ and inter‐observer reliability of the application of the cellulite severity scale to a Spanish female population

Abstract: Cellulite Severity Scale has excellent reliability and internal consistency when used to evaluate cellulite on the buttocks and back of the thighs considered together. Nevertheless, the dimension grade of laxity, flaccidity or sagging skin does not contribute positively to the final consistency of the scale. This dimension needs to be analysed in greater depth in future studies.

“…Our results did not demonstrate positive correlation between skin elasticity measures and cellulite clinical appearance. This finding corroborates the conclusion of a Spanish study about the no correlation between cellulite severity and skin elasticity which was considered a less important variable . Nevertheless, we believe that the limitation represented by this measurement in just one point may explain these findings as it is well documented that the skin elasticity impairment worsens the cellulite aspect .…”

“…Average BMI for the whole group was 25.4 AE 4.1 kg/m 2 with no differences between the four age groups. 7,8 Previous studies have included CSS as an assessment tool to evaluate cellulite improvement after different treatments. When stratifying the CSS score according to its five aspects, depth, skin surface alterations, and flaccidity scores were significantly higher in older patients.…”

“…The study was carried out during the months between September 2012 and January 2013 at the University of Seville, Spain. Digital photographs were taken and collected under standardized conditions of the femoral gluteus region, process described in a previous research . Two takes of each of the patients in standing were performed: one in a relaxed position of the gluteo‐femoral musculature and another under maximum contraction.…”
