Abstract:Bacterial cell wall enables the cell to withstand the osmotic pressure and thus enables its survival in a large set of different habitats. Yet for cells to grow and divide it has to be remodeled in a controlled manner. Cell wall is composed of glycan strands comprising alternating N-acetylglucosamine (NAG) and N-acetylmuramic acid (NAM) and cross-linked by peptides. Peptidoglycan hydrolases have been shown to be important for peptidoglycan maturation, turnover and recycling as well as antibiotic resistance.Bac… Show more
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
