Interdigitating dendritic cell sarcoma presenting in the sigmoid colon mesentery

Abstract: Rationale:Interdigitating dendritic cell sarcoma (IDCS) is an extremely rare disease. It commonly occurs in middle-aged males and mainly involves the lymph nodes. Pathological examination plays an important role in differentiating from other tumors, but far less published literature focuses on the imaging characteristics of IDCS.Patient concerns:Here, we reported a case of IDCS in a 52-year-old male involving the pelvis with medical imaging and pathologic findings.Diagnoses:Preoperative unenhanced CT scan reve… Show more

“…No clear cystic components were found. [ 9 ] In this case, the imaging findings showed a giant cystic solid mass on the right retroperitoneum and lower back, with unclear borders. The mural wall, partition, and wall nodules around the enhancement were strengthened, and most of the foci were cystic areas lacking strengthening.…”

“…Adjuvant radiotherapy does not significantly improve the overall survival time or reduce recurrence rates, and systemic chemotherapy is the main treatment for patients with distant metastasis. 12 The chemotherapy regimens for patients with metastatic IDCs include CHOP (cyclophosphamide, adriamycin, vincristine, prednisone), ABVD (adriamycin, bleomycin, vincristine, dacarbazine), and ICE (ifosfamide, carboplatin, etoposide). However, the anticancer efficacy of these regimens is very limited.…”

“…Clinically, it manifests as a painless mass in middle-aged men, with a male to female ratio of 3:2. Interdigitat-ing dendritic cell sarcoma mainly involves the lymph nodes, but extranodal involvement has been reported in one-third of cases, including in the lungs, skin, breast, bone, liver, spleen, and small intestine (90). Imaging manifestations vary depending on the disease site (Fig 26).…”
