Chemical control is the main weed management system in coffee crop. Herbicides alternatives controlling grass weeds in infested coffee areas are limited, mainly due to the few options of registered herbicides. Thus, it is important to evaluate selective post-emergence herbicide to control these important weeds in coffee crop. The objective of this work was to evaluate the selectivity, efficiency and agronomic viability of the herbicide IHH 0513 (Quizalofope-P-ethyl 50g ai L-1) compared to Glyphosate on grass control in coffee crop. Two experiments were carried out in randomized blocks with four replications in the municipality of Lavras and Santana da Vargem (MG - Brazil) in a commercial coffee crop cultivar “Mundo Novo” and “Catuai” to evaluate the herbicide effectiveness in the crop rows. The experimental design was a randomized block design with seven treatments and four replications. Treatments consisted of IHH 0513 doses (Quizalofope-P-ethyl 25, 50, 75 and 100 g ai ha-1) compared to the standard GLI OVER (Glyphosate 480 g ia L-1) at the dose of 1680g ai ha-1 + Iharol at 0.5% v/v. Application occurred when sourgrass and goosegrass were at the beginning of development with up to 4 tillers (early vegetative stage) and in a second trial, at advanced stages of development (highly branched and /or flowering). Control assessments in percentage were performed at 7, 14, 21 and 28 days after application (DAA) of the treatments. A note of phytotoxicity was given by the EWRC scale (1964). The control of weeds was evaluated in each experimental plot using the visual notes scale of FRANS et al. (1986), where: 0% represents no control, and 100% total control of the species in question, compared to the population present in the non-weed control. In general, the dose of 1500 and 2000 mL per hectare of IHH 0513 (75 and 100 g ai ha-1) for the weeds at early vegetative stage presented the highest levels of controls (above 90%). The dose of 2000 mL per hectare (100 g ai ha-1) was efficient at 28 DAA to control more developed plants. No symptoms of phytotoxicity caused by the IHH 0513 product were detected at any dose tested. Quizalofop-P-ehtyl can be recommended for integrated weed management in coffee for sourgrass and goosegrass.

Sourgrass is one of the weeds of great economic importance in Brazil due to its difficulty of control and conditions that allow its emergence and development throughout the year. Thus, this study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of clethodim and haloxyfop applied alone or mixed with glyphosate and other herbicides to control glyphosate-resistant sourgrass at different stages of development. For this, three experiments were conducted in the field: in experiment 1, the herbicides were applied in sourgrass plants with 6 to 8 tillers; and in experiments 2 and 3, when plants were at full flowering, with up to 18 tillers. After treatment application, visual evaluations were performed at 14, 21, 28, 35, 42, 49, and 56 days after application (DAA) in experiment 1 and at 7, 14, 21, 28, and 35 DAA in experiments 2 and 3. Also in experiment 3, the shoot of remaining plants was collected in the last control evaluation to measure the dry matter. In experiment 1, the treatment glyphosate + clethodim presented a satisfactory control close to 90%, but after 35 DAA, sourgrass plants started showing significant resprouts, decreasing the control. In experiments 2 and 3, treatments showed no control above 90% and the herbicides clethodim and haloxyfop had similar final control when in mixture with glyphosate. Therefore, the isolated herbicide application at the tested doses was not sufficient for efficient control of sourgrass at more advanced stages of development.

RESUMOObjetivou-se, com esse trabalho, estudar o manejo de plantas adultas de Panicum maximum cv. Aruana pelo herbicida glyphosate aplicado isolado e em mistura com quizalofop-p-tefuryl, associado à aplicação sequencial com glyphosate e à roçada das plantas antes da aplicação. Dois experimentos foram instalados em condições de campo. Em um deles as plantas de P. maximum foram roçadas e, no outro, não. Seis tratamentos [glyphosate a 1,08 e 1,44 kg ha -1 de equivalente ácido; glyphosate a 1,08 e 1,44 kg ha -1 em mistura com quizalofop-p-tefuryl a 0,12 kg ha -1 ; quizalofop-p-tefuryl a 0,12 kg ha -1 , além de uma testemunha sem herbicida] foram estudados, combinados com (ou sem) a aplicação sequencial de glyphosate (1,08 kg ha -1 ), pulverizado nove dias após a primeira. Nos dois experimentos nenhum dos tratamentos estudados resultou na mortalidade de 100% das plantas de P. maximum cv. Aruana. Além disto, a aplicação de quizalofop-p-tefuryl isolado foi ineficaz no controle das plantas adultas e sua associação ao glyphosate não agregou vantagens. Nas duas situações a aplicação em única época de 1,44 kg ha -1 glyphosate, foi suficiente para o controle das plantas (>85%). Two experiments were conducted under field conditions. Plants of P. maximum of one experiment were cut and, in the other, no. Six treatments [glyphosate (1.08 and 1.44 kg ha -1 ), glyphosate (1.08 and 1.44 kg ha) in combination with quizalofop-ptefuryl (0.12 kg ha -1 ), quizalofop-p-tefuryl (0.12 kg ha -1 ), and a control without herbicide] were studied, combined with (or without) the sequential application of glyphosate (1.08 kg ha -1 ), sprayed nine days after the first. In both conditions, cut and not cut, none of the experimental treatments resulted in 100% mortality of plants of P. maximum cv. Aruana. Furthermore, the application of quizalofop-p-tefuryl isolate was ineffective in control the adult plants and its association with glyphosate no added advantages. In both experiments, the application in a single season at 1.44 kg ha -1 glyphosate was sufficient to control plants (>85%). The same occurred with the combination of 1.08 kg ha -1 of glyphosate over sequential 1.08 kg ha -1 .
