Insight into the synthesis and tuning of uncoated, core–shell structured lithium nickel phosphate

Abstract: The emerging market of high voltage electronics signified the importance of the development of novel cathodes with high operating potentials. Lithium nickel phosphate (LNP), a suitable candidate with an operating...

“…Each is resolved into two components, Ni 2+ (low BE) and Ni 3+ (high BE), and followed by its satellite peaks. The ratio between the deconvoluted subpeaks (Ni 3+ /Ni 2+ ) is 0.53, lower than that reported for the precursor powder of 0.63 . The platelet formation is thereby accompanied by the reduction of a fraction of Ni 3+ .…”

“…To support the conclusions drawn from the XPS analysis, the integration of lithium within the structure was quantified by means of chemical analysis, revealing the presence of lithium of about 1.5 wt % (Table S4). When compared with the precursor powder, the overall lithium and phosphorus contents decrease to less than one-third and to around half, respectively. This observation is linked to the dissolution of the lithium phosphates during the platelet formation, while incorporating the dissolved PO 4 3– and a fraction of the Li + within the structure.…”
