Objective Professional engagement is an indicator of the relationship between a nurse and the work environment and is an important factor in performance and productivity. The goal of this study was to evaluate levels of engagement among nurses in primary health care units. Methods Cross‐sectional study in a city of São Paulo state, Brazil, in 2017, using an instrument containing sociodemographic variables and the Utrecht Work Engagement Scale (UWES). Results In the sample of 75 nurses, the majority were female (94.7%), aged between 29 and 39 (52.0%), specialists (81.3%), married (57.3%), permanent employees (68.0%), working 40 hr per week (98.7%), and working in primary health care for 3–10 years (42.7%). Engagement levels were classified as high in all dimensions. Nurses who worked as managers presented a very high level of dedication; professionals aged 40 years or older presented very high levels in all dimensions (Dedication: 5.2; Absorption: 5.0; Vigor: 5.3; and Overall score: 5.1); and professionals with more than 10 years of experience in primary health care had very high levels in all dimensions (Dedication: 5.0; Absorption: 5.0; Vigor: 5.0; and Overall score: 5.0). Conclusions Nurses working in Brazil's primary health care system have high engagement and ability to act; they enhance team performance and quality and effectiveness of care provided.

Objective: to describe the most important tools of ATLAS.ti Software and to associate them with the procedures of Thematic Content Analysis. Method: It is a theoretical reflection of the Content Analysis phases of Laurence Bardin, associating them with software tools Atlas.ti and showing its usefulness for data analysis in qualitative research. Results: historical contextualization and the available resources of Atlas.ti software with presentation of health research involving the phases of thematic content analysis. Final considerations: The Atlas.ti software assists in the accomplishment of the thematic content analysis being this promising association in health research.

Adversities experienced by professionals in the Primary Healh Care: implications for the meanings of the work

Objective: To understand the experiences of adversity in the Primary Health Care and their implications for the meanings of the participant professionals' work. Methods: Single case study, of qualitative nature, with 62 professionals active in the Family Health Strategy, whose data were collected by means of semi-structured interview and comics technique and analyzed by the thematic content analysis, with aid of Atlas ti, version 7 software. Results: There emerged the categories: Experiences of adversities in the Family Health Strategy and Implications of the adversities for the meaning of the professionals' work. In these categories were pointed aspects related to inadequate conditions of work, to wage question, to excessive demands and interpersonal conflicts that provided negative implications for the meanings of the team's work, for satisfaction and usefulness of the work. Conclusion: it was possible to apprehend the experiences of adversities in the work environment and its implications on the meanings of the work that can impair the professionals' actions. Implications for practice: the study may subsidize the reflection on the strategies that enable the reduction of the adversities in the work environment, contributing to benefiting the worker's health and care of quality for the population.
