“…38 In another study, the OEF values were 0.46 and 0.51 in the diabetic rats at 4 and 6 weeks of diabetes, respectively, and 0.55 in the nondiabetic rats. 17 The results of these past studies differ from those of the current study. These differences may, at least in part, be attributable to species differences.…”

“…17 We found no change in either DO 2 or MO 2 at 4 and 6 weeks of diabetes. However, we were not able to make measurements at longer durations of diabetes because of cataract formation.…”

“…3(a) , the average F Total in rats with OIR was significantly lower than in controls (2.74 ± 0.58 μl/min vs. 7.37 ± 2.96 μl/min; p < 0.05). F Total measurements for the controls were consistent with previously reported measurements made using en face Doppler OCT in adult Sprague-Dawley rats (6.48 μl/min) 21 , and fluorescent microsphere imaging in adult Long Evans pigmented rats (7.9 μl/min) 22 23 . We found significant reduction in irDO 2 in rats with OIR versus controls as shown in Fig.…”

“…However, using phosphorescence lifetime imaging to measure pO 2 and fluorescent microsphere imaging to measure F Total , in two separate studies, Wanek et al . measured the irMRO 2 to be ~500 nl O 2 /min in normal adult Long Evans pigmented rats, which is higher than what we obtained in our current study 22 23 . These differences in the normal irMRO 2 could be attributed to species and age differences between the animals in the respective studies.…”

“…If this assumption is true, retinal hypoxia should precede the appearance of neovascularization. However, magnetic resonance studies did not find evidence to support a special early role of retinal hypoxia in proliferative retinopathy models, a conclusion in-line with that of other labs (Alder et al, 1991;Berkowitz, 2008;Diederen et al, 2006;Lau and Linsenmeier, 2014;Ola et al, 2006;Reeves et al, 2002;Wanek et al, 2014;Wright et al, 2011;Zhang et al, 2003).…”
