Influence of Strength Behavior in Brick Masonry Prisms and Wallette Under Compression

Abstract

Prisms and Wallette have been used to explore masonry's strength and deformation capabilities under uniaxial compression for decades; nevertheless, the link between these two prominent test methods is not well established. The prism or Wallette test can be used to determine compression qualities using standard masonry design expressions and data. The researchers compared the standards and came to judgments on their conservatism or lack thereof, independent of how the rules for those design standards were formed. As a result, an attempt was made to link the behavior of the huge masonry prism to the Wallette pressure behavior. Prisms and Wallette were made and tested three variations of units and two mortar proportion ratios. The result shows the strength under compression of prism tests is consistently higher than that of Wallette samples. It has remained demonstrated that a straight relationship concerning the compressive strengths of prisms and Wallette is tolerable. In order to test data from the prisms and Wallette, a simplified analytical model for the deformation properties of masonry is given.
