Ozone is an important disinfecting agent, however its influence on enamel adhesion has not yet been clarified.Objective:Evaluate the influence of ozone pretreatment on the shear strength of an etch-and-rinse and a self-etch system to enamel and analyze the respective failure modes.Material and Methods:Sixty sound bovine incisors were used. Specimens were randomly assigned to four experimental groups (n=15): Group G1 (Excite® with ozone) and group G3 (AdheSE® with ozone) were prepared with ozone gas from the HealOzone unit (Kavo®) for 20 s prior to adhesion, and groups G2 (Excite®) and G4 (AdheSE®) were used as control. Teeth were bisected and polished to simulate a smear layer just before the application of the adhesive systems. The adhesives were applied according to the manufacturer's instructions to a standardized 3 mm diameter surface, and a composite (Synergy D6, Coltene Whaledent) cylinder with 2 mm increments was build. Specimens were stored in 100% humidity for 24 h at 37º C and then subjected to a thermal cycling regimen of 500 cycles. Shear bond tests were performed with a Watanabe device in a universal testing machine at 5 mm/min. The failure mode was analyzed under scanning electron microscope. Means and standard deviation of shear bond strength (SBS) were calculated and difference between the groups was analyzed using ANOVA, Kolmogorov-Smirnov, Levene and Bonferroni. Chi-squared statistical tests were used to evaluate the failure modes. Results:Mean bond strength values and failure modes were as follows: G1- 26.85±6.18 MPa (33.3% of adhesive cohesive failure); G2 - 27.95±5.58 MPa (53.8% of adhesive failures between enamel and adhesive); G3 - 15.0±3.84 MPa (77.8% of adhesive failures between enamel and adhesive) and G4 - 13.1±3.68 MPa (36.4% of adhesive failures between enamel and adhesive).Conclusions:Shear bond strength values of both adhesives tested on enamel were not influenced by the previous application of ozone gas.

ÖZETKompozit restorasyonların klinik başarısını etkileyen en önemli faktör, bağlayıcı ara yüzeyin sağlamlığı ve sürekliliğidir. Adeziv diş hekimliğindeki gelişmeler ile birlikte, diş dokularına etkin bağlanma sağlanmış ve bunun sonucunda restoratif tedavinin başarısı elde edilmiştir. Günümüz adeziv sisteleri ile yaşanan esas zorluk, mine ve dentin gibi iki farklı dokuya bağlanmanın tam olarak sağlanabilmesidir. Dentin dokusuna bağlanma, mineye kıyasla daha karmaşıktır ve birçok faktörden etkilenir. Mikrogerilim bağlanma testlerinin avantajı ise bu farklılıkların tek bir diş ile ölçülebilmesidir. Buna ilaveten mikrogerilim bağlanma testi birçok avantaja sahiptir. Tek bir diş ile verimli bir çalışma yapılabilmesi, dişlerin bölgesel farklılıklarının bağlanma dayanım değerleri üzerindeki etkisinin incelenebilmesi, çekme testi esnasında eşit kuvvet dağılımının daha fazla sağlanması ve tek bir örnek ile araştırmacılara kapsamlı bir çalışma imkânı sunması bunlardan bazılarıdır. Bununla birlikte bağlanma dayanım sonuçları birçok faktörden etkilenir. Hazırlanan örneklerin mikrogerilim test aparatına yerleştirilmesi, bağlayıcı ve dişin mekanik özellikleri, hazırlanan örneklerin şekli gibi birçok etken bağlanma dayanım değerleri üzerinde etkilidir. Bu makalede mikrogerilim bağlanma test metodu, farklı örnek hazırlama metotları, test sonuçlarını etkileyen faktörler ve bu test metodu kullanılarak bağlayıcı sistemlerin bağlanma direncini inceleyen güncel çalışmalar derlenmiştir.Anahtar Kelimeler: Mikrogerilim bağlanma testi, dentin bonding ajan, adezyon ABSTRACTOne of the most important criteria for clinical success with composite restorative materials is the effectiveness and durability of the bonded interface. Development adhesive restorative materials provide an effective bond to dental tissue and, consequently, offering successful restorative treatment. The main challenge for dental adhesives is to provide an equally effective bond to two hard tissues of different nature. Bonding to enamel is now considered a durable, while bonding to dentin has been inconsistent. Originally, one of the key advantages of the microtensile bond strength test is the possibility to test different types of tooth tissue. Additionally, there are a lot of advantages of microtensile bond testing including, conservation of teeth, evaluation of regional bond strengths possible, more uniform loading, conductive to comprehensive examination of research question on same sample. However several factor effect of the finding of microtensile bond strength test like specimen fixation method to gripping device, mechanical properties of the adhesive and the adherents tested, or specimen shape. Different results could be obtained with any change in these testing variables. The aim of this rewiev was to evaluate the microtensile bond strength test method, different specimen geometries and the current studies that evaluate of the bond strength of dentin bonding agents using this method.

Aim:The aim of this study was to investigate in vitro the bond strength of composite resins on enamel previously treated with whitening strips. Materials and methods:A total of 48 bovine incisors were allocated to four experimental groups (n = 12 each): G1 (WSC)-treated with 9.5% hydrogen peroxide whitening strips (3D White Whitestrips ® Advanced Vivid/CREST); G2 (WSO)-treated with 10% hydrogen peroxide whitening strips (3D WhiteTM/Oral B); G3 (WG)-treated with 7.5% hydrogen peroxide gel with fluorine, calcium and potassium nitrate (White Class ® /FGM); and G4 (C)-control not subjected to bleaching treatment. The specimens were subjected to bleaching over 2 weeks following the manufacturers' instructions. Following the elaboration of the composite resin test specimens, the samples were stored in artificial saliva and subsequently subjected to the microshear test using the universal testing machine (EMIC ® ). The bond strength values were analyzed by one-way ANOVA and Tukey's statistical test (5%).Results: Significant differences were observed among the investigated groups (p < 0.05). The G3-WG exhibited greater values compared with the control group and the groups treated with strips, G1-WSC and G2-WSO. Analysis of the bond interface revealed that a large fraction of the failures occurred at the enamel-resin interface. Can Whitening Strips interfere with the Bond Strength of Conclusion:The bond strength decreased following 14 days of treatment with bleaching strips, whereas the whitening gel with 7.5% hydrogen peroxide, calcium and fluorine increased the bond strength.
