Abstract: To investigate the impact of different dietary lipid sources on fillet composition and lipid transport, we conducted a feeding trial and evaluated the proximate composition of muscle tissue, fatty acid profiles, total cholesterol (in muscle and plasma), triglycerides, and lipoprotein concentrations in Nile tilapia, Oreochromis niloticus. Five semi‐purified diets, containing different oils (soybean – SO, corn – CO, linseed – LO, fish – FO, and olive – OO), were supplied to tilapia for 160 d. Fish fed with LO an… Show more

“…The proximate composition was not affected by dietary SCO in the whole body of the Jian carp, which was similar to results in gilthead sea bream fed LNA‐rich diets (Benedito‐Palos et al ). The muscle crude protein content showed the highest value in the SCO50 group, but Ferreira et al () observed no difference in the muscle crude protein of Nile tilapia when fed with SO or LO diets. It is likely that an appropriate level of LNA promoted the protein deposition in the muscle of Jian carp in this study.…”

“…There were several studies to evaluate the impact of dietary lipid sources on tilapia in which growth and FA composition were used as the important parameters to determine the optimal dietary lipid sources for tilapia (Ferreira et al, ; Huang, Huang, & Hou, ; Ng et al, ; Takeuchi & Satoh, ). In our study, biochemical parameters in serum were also examined to investigate the influence of dietary‐specific FAs on antioxidant status.…”

“…Nevertheless, Mourent et al (2005) did not verify a significant difference in the hematocrit percentage when fed linseed, canola, fish or olive oil. Other study had registered a higher value of hematocrit in fish fed with soybean oil, compared to those fed linseed, fish, or olive oil (Ferreira et al, 2011). On the other hand, Bell et al (1996) observed no significant effect of dietary lipid on the percentage of hematocrit in Atlantic salmon.…”

“…Several fish species have evidenced that the source of lipids in the diet may suppress or enhance some immune parameters. Nevertheless, only few studies are available for the immune system of tilapia (FERREIRA et al, 2011).…”
