Driven by the elementary students' low self-efficacy (SE) in learning mathematics, this study aims to delve deeper into the interaction between learning based on Mathematical Prior Ability (MPA) and the improvement of students' SE after the implementation of Concrete-Pictorial-Abstract (CPA) approach. In total, 119 elementary school students from Purwakarta, Subang, Karawang dan Bekasi participated. Both tests and non-tests were used as the instruments of this study. Using a quasi-experimental design with a nonequivalent pretest-posttest control group, a two-way ANOVA was used as the technical analysis of the data. The research results revealed that the learning factors are higher than 0.05 i.e. (0.235), the significance of the MPA factor is smaller than 0.05 i.e. (0.030), and the significance of the interaction factor (Learning MPA) is higher than 0.05 i.e. (0.301). It can be concluded that there is an interaction between learning (CPA and conventional) based on MPA and the students' SE. Thus, the CPA approach can be used to enhance the students' SE so that they can learn with higher confidence.

The purpose of this research is to find out the increase of the Spatial Sense (SS) in the elementary school students through Concrete Pictorial Abstract (CPA) approach viewed from the Prior Mathematics Ability (PMA). The method was the quasi-experimental with pre-test and post-test design control. The topic focused on geometry involving as many as 119 5th grade students from 2 elementary schools in Karawang. The sample was taken through the purposive sampling technique. The instrument was through the test to measure SS and PMA as well as the non-test to observe the students. Descriptively, the increase of SS in the students through the CPA approach was higher than those who learned with the conventional one. Based on inferential statistic test, the increase of the Spatial Sense towards the medium and low PMA groups reaches a p-value 0.000 and 0.001<0.05. It means that the increase of the Spatial Sense through the CPA approach was better. However, the increase of the Spatial Sense towards the high PMA reaches p-value 0.102>0.05, showing that there was no significant difference. Thus, CPA approach is considered a good alternative to increase the students' SS on the high, medium, and low PMA for students in the upper grades.

In general, many Indonesian students have difficulty learning mathematics. Mathematics is widely used and developed by humans to solve problems in everyday life. However, mathematics is rarely taught as a culturally related subject. The mosque is a cultural embodiment whose ornaments use a lot of geometric motifs. Ethnomathematics studies the relation between mathematics and culture. This research aims to explore the geometry concepts on mosque ornaments, determine how to construct mosque ornaments using geometry concepts, and create contextual geometry problems based on mosque ornaments. The research employed a qualitative approach with an ethnographic method. The research location was the Grand Mosque of Bandung, West Java, Indonesia. The researchers act as an instrument of data collection. The triangulation technique is used to generate valid data, which was carried out through observations, interviews, and literature studies. Data condensation, data display, and concluding were used to analyze the research data. This research showed that the Grand Mosque of Bandung ornaments have geometry concepts, namely points, lines, angles, triangles, squares, rhombuses, kites, trapeziums, hexagons, circles, translation, reflection, rotation, and dilation. Mosque ornaments can be constructed using geometry concepts. In addition, contextual geometry problems can be created based on mosque ornaments. These results indicate that the ornaments of the Grand Mosque of Bandung are rich in geometry concepts. Therefore, mosque ornaments can be used as alternative learning media to overcome students' mathematical difficulties, especially in geometry material.
