Infectious Spondylitis with Bacteremia Caused byRoseomonas mucosain an Immunocompetent Patient

Abstract: Roseomonas are a gram-negative bacteria species that have been isolated from environmental sources. Human Roseomonas infections typically occur in immunocompromised patients, most commonly as catheter-related bloodstream infections. However, Roseomonas infections are rarely reported in immunocompetent hosts. We report what we believe to be the first case in Korea of infectious spondylitis with bacteremia due to Roseomonas mucosa in an immunocompetent patient who had undergone vertebroplasty for compression fra… Show more

“…In this case, IE caused by this slow-growth non-fermentative Gram-negative bacterium was rarely studied. R. mucoca was a bacterial genus of pink-pigmented, oxidative, Gram-negative coccobacilli, which grows well on blood agar and chocolate agar, but not on McConkey agar [ 4 , 7 9 ]. In our case, the pathogen organism was misidentified as R.gilardii by the Vitek 2 system.…”

“…In our case, the pathogen organism was misidentified as R.gilardii by the Vitek 2 system. However, according to the results of MALDI-TOF MS and 16S rRNA gene sequence [ 7 ], it was further identified as R.mucoca . Similar to our observation, there were also other researchers reported the misidentification with Vitek 2 system [ 16 ].…”

“…rosea , and Roseomonas mucosa [ 2 , 8 , 12 ]. Of these, R. mucosa appears to be the most frequently identified in clinical samples [ 8 ] and has the ability to cause infections in immunocompetent patients [ 8 , 13 ] and even life-threatening diseases [ 14 ]. However, the clinical picture of the infection caused by the pathogen remains to be fully elucidated because of the paucity of reported cases.…”
