PurposeFollowing an increasing interest in the area that merges digital/I4.0 technologies and business models (BMs), which led to a proliferation of articles in this domain, the purpose of this article is to systematize this body of literature by means of a structured literature review.Design/methodology/approachAfter a careful selection of articles, we carried out the analysis with the support of bibliometric techniques, using the bibliographic coupling approach complemented with factor analysis and the content analysis of articles.FindingsThe results of the literature review analysis allow us to organize the literature around four main research streams, namely digital technologies and business model innovation, digital strategy and BMs, digital platforms and BMs, and IoT, servitization and BMs. On such a basis, we outline gaps and provide promising avenues for further research in this research area.Research limitations/implicationsThis study has implications for academics in terms of conceptualization of relevant constructs, integration of two streams of research and specific technologies whose relationship with the BM still deserves attention.Practical implicationsThis study has implications also for managers, who may take advantage of the description of some BM archetypes driven by digital/I4.0 technologies and also appreciate the relevance of taking a strategic approach, with a particular focus on the BM, toward the use of digital technologies.Originality/valueThis study merges two relevant streams of research in an attempt to see how they have developed synergically and what potentials their merge could offer for future research.

Health crisis caused by COVID-19 had a significant impact on the activities and performance of companies worldwide, namely in industries. In this context, the adaptation of companies to the markets and to the new demands of consumers, readapt to strategies, processes, products, and approaches to the market, become paramount. In the case of companies, some changes in the shop floor work systems become essential, to provide competitive advantages in post-pandemic business scenarios, developing new approaches to increase the efficiency, agility and resilience of operations, always tends to account the Lean Thinking approach and its principles. Thus, the purpose of this article is to show that through Lean philosophy, Lean Logistics and ergonomic tools, one can change the manufacturing space and reduce human interaction in a post-pandemic scenario. In addition, through these three approaches associated with Industry 4.0, this article shows a project in a real case study in an automotive company, to integrate Automated Guided Vehicles (AGV) among other technologies. The study of AGV integration used a simulation model designed in Simio. This project could allow to significantly reduce the ergonomic risks, energy consumption and associated CO2 emissions, and the flow of materials within the organization. The costs could be reduced by 14% in the first year of implementing AGVs and 40% in the second year after implementation. Introducing autonomous AGV will reduce the need of interaction among employees which is fundamental for healthy environments in pandemic context.

The basic guarantee of promoting intelligent manufacturing ability of manufacturing enterprises is to enhance the comprehensive strength of the country and realize industrialization. Based on the coevolution strategy, considering the time and space structure, this paper determines that the path of manufacturing enterprises to promote intelligent manufacturing is adaptive, visionary, planned, and emerging. According to the factors influencing the promotion of intelligent manufacturing by manufacturing enterprises, the paper proposes the following steps: adaptive strategy path, vision strategic path, planned strategic path, and emerging strategy path. The paper constructs an evaluation system for manufacturing enterprises to promote the selection of intelligent manufacturing path with 25 evaluation indexes and establishes the three-dimensional model of promoting intelligent manufacturing path selection by using the combination of Choquet fuzzy integral method and SPACE method. Through the empirical analysis of ARR, it is found that the planned strategic path is the most suitable path to promote intelligent manufacturing, and the scientificity and objectivity of the three-dimensional path selection model are shown. It is of great theoretical innovation and practical significance to develop a new perspective for manufacturing enterprises to promote the research and selection of intelligent manufacturing path.
