Induction of Autophagy in Human Cervical Cancer Cell Line (Siha) by Chaetomorpha Linum (Muller) Kütz.

Abstract: Objective: Algae is a rich source of various metabolites. Use of algae in traditional medicine was reported from very early days. The potential anticancerous activity of the algae was also reported by recent researches. In the present study, cell death mechanism induced by green alga Chaetomorpha linum (Muller) Kütz. was studied on human cervical cancer cell line, SiHa (Human papilloma virus-HPV 16+ve).Methods: Cells were treated with chloroform fraction of the Chaetomorpha linum (CLC). DNA fragmentation, cell… Show more

“…117 Likewise, the extract of Chaetomorpha linum induced cell death by autophagy in SiHa cells through upregulation of AMPK and decreasing the Akt/mTOR pathway. 118 In accordance, aloe-emodin also diminished the expression of HPV16-18 E6 and E7 in siHa and HeLa cell through diminishing of glucose metabolism by the downregulation of the glucose transporter protein 1; 119 nevertheless, it is known that this compound can induce autophagy by targeting this process at different levels in cervical, breast and pancreatic cancer. 120,121 Furthermore, glucolaxogenin, a steroidal plant sapogenin, promoted the formation of autophagosomes in SiHa and HeLa increasing the expression of LAMP-1 and the autophagic marker LC3-II.…”

“…For instance, resveratrol, a powerful antioxidant molecule, induced autophagosomes formation in cervical cancer HPV18 positive HeLa and CaLo cell lines 117 . Likewise, the extract of Chaetomorpha linum induced cell death by autophagy in SiHa cells through upregulation of AMPK and decreasing the Akt/mTOR pathway 118 . In accordance, aloe‐emodin also diminished the expression of HPV16‐18 E6 and E7 in siHa and HeLa cell through diminishing of glucose metabolism by the downregulation of the glucose transporter protein 1; 119 nevertheless, it is known that this compound can induce autophagy by targeting this process at different levels in cervical, breast and pancreatic cancer 120 ,.…”
