It has been estimated that most chronic carriers of HBV have approximately lo6 Dane particles per ml of serum (24); in contrast, young, chronically infected ducks have approximately 10'' DHBV genome equivalents per ml of serum (unpublished data). This suggests that our young, experimentally infected ducks may have a much larger virus load than adult human HBV carriers.…”
