The informal economy plays an integral role in addressing the socioeconomic issues facing many nations around the world. Informal sector entrepreneurship activities contribute 10-20% of the GDP in developed economies and up to 60% in developing economies. In South Africa, the informal sector accounts for 15-17% of total employment and about 5.2% of the country's GDP. Yet, very little attention is given to how informal sector entrepreneurship shapes individual entrepreneurial orientation and the emergence of entrepreneurial leadership, and vice versa. The lack of attention to the notions of individual entrepreneurial orientation and the emergence of entrepreneurial leadership from the informal sector is worrisome given that a significant number of now successful entrepreneurs in African contexts began their business operations within the informal sector. This article presents a multilevel analysis of the emergence of entrepreneurial leadership in the informal sector of South Africa. We draw from "rags to riches" inspirational accounts and social identity theory to develop an integrative framework on the emergence of entrepreneurial leadership in the informal sector. Short case studies of successful entrepreneurial leaders who emerged from the informal sector are presented for illustrative purposes. This paper aims to provide valuable insights into one of the understudied but rapidly growing entrepreneurial contexts, informal sector entrepreneurship, and how this context shapes individual entrepreneurial orientation and the emergence of entrepreneurial leadership. This exposes a previously hidden territory for new insights and further studies on how to advance entrepreneurship development research and praxis.

Entrepreneurship of an institutional field: the emergence of coworking spaces for digital business models

Coworking spaces have been proliferating world-wide in urban and rural areas while facilitating entrepreneurship and new, especially digital business models. Our research analyzes the worldwide expansion by drawing upon mechanisms from institutional theory. We argue that the sense of community, emotional activation, the local communities together with the digital linkages and the open office allowed coworking spaces to evolve as a real space for entrepreneurship. The common lifestyle and the high digital identity of the users further explain the emergence of this entrepreneurship field that shows high convergent forms of coworking spaces. The key divergence comes with different ownership models.

Research question: Entrepreneurial orientation (EO) is one of the performance measurements in the research on sport entrepreneurship. Another measure of performance studied is coopetition (simultaneous collaboration and competition). This study tested how EO might affect coopetition. Research methods: In total, 106 sport entrepreneurs from the United States participated in a survey. This survey included an experiment measuring participants' coopetition tendency (the dependent variable) and EO (the independent variable). Results and findings: EO affected coopetition. This relationship was negative among sport entrepreneurs who reported training with their potential competitors and positive among sport entrepreneurs who did not report such training. Implications: EO-behaviors (developing sport products, services, techniques, equipment, and practices) can encourage sport entrepreneurs towards coopetition. This might especially be the case for sport entrepreneurs who use their skills acquired from sports that they train or trained alone.
