Increase of fire resistance of coating wood with adding mineral fillers

Abstract: The article covers all the stages of the process of fire protection: as the separation of gases, heat transfer, the swelling of the coating, which is formed during by the action of fire. To determine the fire protection efficiency in the coatings developed, studies have been carried out on determining the combustibility of wood in terms of mass loss and increase in the temperature of flue gases, and it has been established that mass loss of coated wood does not exceed 3% and the temperature does not exceed 160… Show more

“…This study is a continuation of the studies discussed in [1][2][3][4] where the mechanism of fire protection of organic natural materials, formation of foamed coke and reduction (5) and taken in brackets of weight loss during wood combustion are fully provided. These studies require development of full-scale test methods and study and description of wood behavior.…”

“…Wood impregnation with fire-retardants reduces formation of combustible volatile products, inhibits gas-phase flame reactions, eliminates surface combustion of carbonaceous residue and reduces rate of weight loss [1,2]. Application of coatings makes it possible to slow down material heating due to formation of a protective layer and maintain the material functions in fire for a definite period of time [3,4].…”

“…Fireproofing with modern effective means can significantly affect or eliminate the risk of fire, by preventing the free access of oxygen, which contributes to the destruction of wood and acceleration of the combustion process [1,2]. In addition, the coating allows slowing down the heating of the material due to the formation of a protective layer and retaining its functions in case of fire for a specified period of time [3].…”

“…Recently, such means have become widespread that are capable of forming an insulation layer at the surface of a construction structure, which greatly reduces the processes of heat transfer to the material [4].…”
