Incorporation of nano/micron-SiC particles in Ni-based composite coatings towards enhanced mechanical and anti-corrosion properties

Abstract: Ni-based composite coatings incorporated with nano/micron SiC particles were fabricated via electrochemical co-deposition in Watts bath, followed by the evaluation of their mechanical and anti-corrosion properties. The micrographic observations suggest that the SiC particles with various sizes can be well incorporated to the Ni substrate. X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns indicate that SiC particles with smaller sizes could weaken the preferential growth of Ni along (200) facet. In addition, it is found that th… Show more

“…Additionally, it can synergistically collaborate with the conventional strengthening process, presenting a novel, cost-effective, and highly efficient method of reinforcement [ 130 ]. The ceramic particles that strengthen the steel matrix are mainly divided into carbides, borides, oxides, and nitrides [ 131 ]. Commonly used ceramic particles include TiC, TiB 2 , Al 2 O 3 , TiN, etc.…”

“…In recent years, the research and application of nanomaterials have become a hot topic in various industries. With ability to improve coatings' adhesion, abrasion resistance, impact resistance, flexibility, corrosion resistance, and radiation resistance [1], nano coatings have vast development prospects in the coating industry [2][3][4]. Consumers' confidence in purchasing wood flooring can be boosted if the abrasion resistance of the protective surface layer of solid wood flooring can be improved through the development of the super-abrasion-resistant coatings of wood flooring.…”
