Abstract: Background: Tarsal coalitions are an important reason for foot pain in children. Early estimates placed the prevalence at up to 2%, while more recent data suggest that it is as high as 11% to 13%. To our knowledge, there have been no population-based studies to determine the true incidence of symptomatic tarsal coalitions in a pediatric population. “…14 County residents have more ready access to medical care than is typical in much of the world, which could provide results reflecting a higher incidence of scoliosis than other communities without ready access to health care which may have higher rates of undiagnosed disease. However, the database has been used to determine the incidence of other pediatric orthopaedic conditions including SCFE, 38 ACL tear, 39 tarsal coalition, 40 and osteochondritis dissecans. 41 Furthermore, our study evaluates the incidence of scoliosis over time.…”

“…Tarsal coalitions are rare pathologies that cause chronic pain in adolescents and young adults. 1 The diagnosis is based on 3D imaging and bone scintigraphy, which make it possible to ascertain the involvement of the synchondrosis in the evolution of the pain experienced by the patient. 2 , 3 The usual surgical management consists of resection of the synchondrosis, followed by arthrodesis.…”

“…Non-surgical management of tarsal coalition includes activity modification, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatories, orthotics, and a period of immobilization in a short leg cast or boot, with surgical intervention following failure of non-surgical treatment [ 3 , 12 , 16 ]. Surgical treatment options include resection or arthrodesis of the affected joint.…”
