Incidence of cytomegalovirus infection among the general population and pregnant women in the United States

Abstract: Background: Cytomegalovirus (CMV) is a common opportunistic infection among HIV-infected individuals, a major source of serious complications among organ-transplant recipients, and a leading cause of hearing loss, vision loss, and mental retardation among congenitally infected children.
