In the era of extensive imaging and increasing indications for performing PET-CT scans, the recognition of synchronous tumors may be greater than before. However, the majority of these tumors are seen to occur in the same organ system, likely because of sharing similar pathogenic mechanisms. Synchronous lung cancers of similar or differing histologies have been reported. Primary pulmonary lymphoma, which is a rare form of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, has also been seen with a synchronous primary lung cancer. However, we report a case of a 56-year-old male diagnosed with primary pulmonary lymphoma and on PET-CT imaging, found to have a cecal lesion, the biopsy of which showed adenocarcinoma. We discuss the incidence of the co-existence of multiple tumors, the pathogenic mechanisms involved, and approaches to the management of these rare clinical scenarios.

The severity and distribution of melanosis coli differ among individuals, and the related factors remain unknown. Additionally, their clinical implications have not been sufficiently demonstrated. Thus, we aimed to detect clinical factors related to the severity and range of melanosis coli and elucidate the associations between the grade, location, and detection rate of colorectal neoplasms. Colonoscopy cases performed at our institution from January 2011 to February 2021 were included. Melanosis coli was classified into mild and severe grades. Clinical characteristics and neoplasm detection rates were compared between the mild and severe MC groups and between the rightsided and whole-colon melanosis coli groups. Overall, 236 MC (mild, n = 143; severe, n = 93) cases, of which 50 were right-sided, 5 were left-sided, and 181 were whole-colon melanosis coli cases, were enrolled. The proportion of anthranoid users was higher in the severe melanosis coli group than in the mild melanosis coli group. The adenoma detection rate was higher in the severe melanosis coli and whole-colon melanosis coli groups. The prevalence of neoplasms measuring 5-9 mm and >9 mm was higher in the severe melanosis coli group (p<0.01 and p = 0.04). Severe melanosis coli due to anthranoid usage is associated with colorectal adenoma development.

The synchronous presence of multiple myeloma (MM) and other primary malignant tumors (PMTs) were rarely reported. This study aimed to analyze several cases of MM and other PMTs in order to improve clinicians' understanding of multiple myeloma (MM) with sMPMTs. Methods: This study was a retrospective trial. We retrospectively analyzed six cases of the synchronous presence of MM and other PMTs and reviewed the literature to summarize the clinical features and treatment. Results: The results showed that five cases of immunoglobulin G (IgG) and one case of kappa light chain; D-S stage: six case of stage III; ISS stage: one case of stage I, two cases of stage II, and three cases of stage III; one case each of gastric cancer (pT2N0MO, stage I), breast cancer (pT1bN0M0, stage I), lung cancer (pT1N0M0, stage I), cervical cancer (stage IB2), thyroid cancer (pT1N0M0, stage I), and diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (Ann-Arbor stage II); three of five patients underwent surgery alone, one patient underwent surgery first and then received chemotherapy at the time of pleural metastasis and the other patient only received radiotherapy; two patients were still alive, three died of progression of MM, and one died of lung cancer. The median survival time was 33.5 months (95% CI, 14.17 to 59.5months). Conclusion: The relationship between synchronous MM and other PMTs remains unknown. Clinicians should improve their understanding of MM with sMPMTs by carrying out multidisciplinary collaboration and a patient-oriented approach to optimize treatment and prolong the survival rates of patients.
