“…These acral areas are the most prevalent sites of malignant melanoma in nonwhite populations. The findings in benign melanocytic nevi elicited in this study are essentially the same as those seen in a previous study, 12 although the term used to describe the parallel pattern in the previous report was changed to the "parallel furrow pattern." As in the previous study, some lesions of benign nevus were found whose magnified features did not belong to any typical pattern, and these were grouped as a "nontypical pattern."…”

“…Although many investigators have reported valuable findings on the subject, most authors investigated pigmented lesions of nonglabrous skin. In a previous study of the use of a videomicroscope, 12 the macular and plaque portions of acral lentiginous melanoma of glabrous skin exhibited accentuated pigmentation of the ridges of the skin markings that run mostly in parallel on these anatomical sites. In this study, also with the use of a videomicroscope, we investigated epiluminescent microscopic features of early lesions of malignant melanoma on glabrous skin, comparing them with those of benign melanocytic nevi on these sites.…”

“…To give an example, a pigmented network is the most common dermoscopic feature of melanocytic lesions of the trunk and extremities because of the hyperpigmentation of rete ridges, 9 whereas a parallel pigment pattern is typically found in melanocytic lesions of palms and soles due to the presence of pigmented melanocytes following the furrows or ridges of glabrous skin. 10 Several studies have been performed to test the reliability of dermoscopy in the differentiation of melanoma from benign pigmented lesions. [11][12][13][14][15] More recently, several research groups have reported specific criteria for diagnosing melanoma in the context of various anatomic locations such as the acral and facial areas.…”

“…Glóbulos e pontos podem ser encontrados associados a qualquer um desses padrões. 4 Em contrapartida, no melanoma acral os melanócitos malignos se encontram nos cones interpapilares intermediários, evidenciando imagens dermatóscópicas com padrão em cristas paralelas. Outro padrão descrito é o padrão de multicomponentes, formado por uma combinação de variadas estruturas e cores à dermatoscopia .…”
