“…In other studies using marmosets, four repeated administrations of l-deprenyl before each of four repeated MPTP administrations (Kupsch et al 2001) and two repeated administrations of l-deprenyl before each MPTP administration with ketamine anesthesia separated by 1-week interval (Saji et al 2003) were reported to protect against parkinsonism. In the present study, daily activity counts of marmosets in their individual living cages were recorded continuously, while the activity of marmosets in other studies were recorded in outside test chambers for only 2 h per day (Kupsch et al 2001) or 6 h per day (Saji et al 2003). The present study demonstrated that continuous recording of marmoset activities in its living cages has a distinct advantage for detecting parkinsonism and drug effects sensitively without any distracted factors including moving animals from living cages to outside experimental chambers.…”
