Abstract: The Moon's north and south poles may contain about 6 billion metric tons of water ice, say scientists studying data from NASA's Lunar Prospector mission. An initial estimate in March suggested a total of 300 million metric tons of water ice at the poles. (See Eos, March 17, 1998).
