Improving pulse oximetry auditory displays: Anesthesiologists' perceptions

Abstract: To the Editor, Since its introduction over 30 years ago, there has been little fundamental change in the pulse oximeter's auditory display. 1 Lonnée et al.recently reported that 87% of a Norwegian anesthesiologist sample stated that they rarely or never used the audible pitch sound of the pulse oximeter during anesthesia delivery. 2 Reasons included that they found the sound uninformative or annoying.
