Improved surface‐enhanced Raman scattering of polypyrrole electrodeposited on roughened substrates composed of Au–Ag bimetallic nanoparticles

Abstract: We report here the first electrochemical method to prepare a roughened gold substrate with bimetallic silver and gold nanoparticles. First, a silver substrate was roughened by a triangular-wave oxidation-reduction cycle in 0.1 N HCl aqueous solutions. Silver-containing complexes were found in the solution after the ORC treatment. Then a gold substrate was subsequently roughened by a similar oxidation-reduction treatment in this solution. Scanning electron microscopy and atomic force microscopy reveal that the … Show more

“…Raman spectra of AgNO 3 , pure PPy, and PPy/Mt/Ag composites are depicted in Figure . The spectra of pure PPy is similar to that of the previous literature . The peak at 1555 cm −1 is related to CC bond‐stretching vibrations in PPy.…”

“…With a total of 299 Adaptive silver films were used for SERS of biomolecules by Drachev et al 7 Chemically transformed carbon nanotube thin films 8 or roughened substrates composed of Au-Ag bimetallic nanoparticles 9 were employed by others to enhance the Raman scattering signal. The Editor-in-Chief of JRS feels that it may be valuable to provide the readers of this journal with a quick and effective way to be informed of the latest developments in the many different fields of Raman spectroscopy and to have a reliable overview of concurrent investigations in the various laboratories throughout the world where similar work is being performed.…”

“…The polystyrene latex bands (and their relative intensities) correlate very well with those observed for the reference standard. For polypyrrole, there is a wide range of literature available (e.g., Oddi et al 1986;Inoue et al 1987;Liu 2004;Chuang et al 2005); in Table 3 we refer to band assignments from Liu (2004), who, using a He-Ne laser as here, reported that Raman spectral features obtained using surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy varied according to the electrical conductivity of the polypyrrole. Again, there is generally good agreement between our spectra and these literature spectra.…”
