Including social and environmental concerns in decision-making processes and business operations is essential for organizations. Management control systems are crucial in integrating sustainability issues into decision-making processes. Thus, this study aims to analyze international publications about the relationship between management control systems and sustainability, identifying trends in evolution and future research opportunities. Based on bibliometric techniques, the outputs obtained in the Web of Science (n = 139) and Scopus (n = 73) databases were analyzed in the bibliometrix R package to map and systematically review the literature. After removing duplicates, we obtained a final output of 157 articles. The analysis of these publications draws attention to the relevance and emergence of these topics in academic and business circles and concludes that this area of knowledge has gained relevance in the last five years of research. The originality of this study lies in its ability to offer valuable insights that can shape future research agendas. By focusing specifically on how management control systems support or hinder sustainability initiatives, the study fills a gap in existing literature, which often treats these subjects separately. Future research can focus on the challenges of integrating sustainability into accounting frameworks and the role of technology in accounting for sustainability. The continuous study of these topics is essential to enable professionals and organizations to face contemporary challenges, ensure ethics and transparency, promote sustainability and responsibility, and ensure long-term success in a world increasingly aware of environmental and social issues.

Today, many organizations are seeking to implement continuous improvement plans not only to achieve greater economic benefits but also to improve the quality of life for their employees. The importance of reducing and preventing workplace accidents, protecting the health and well-being of employees, and preventing work-related illnesses has increased. This article focuses on the development of an Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OHSMS) for an organization in the real estate and property development services sector in Bogotá. The design of the OHSMS is based on the identification of the deficiencies of the current system and the proposal of continuous improvement, according to the ISO 45001: 2018 standard. The design process included three stages of research: 1. initial diagnosis, 2. hazard and risk assessment, and 3. management system performance assessment with appropriate controls and indicators. This article evaluates working conditions in production and in enclosed spaces, such as offices. The integration of these aspects ensures a comprehensive vision of occupational health and safety in real estate and property development companies. The design of the OHSMS is an essential step towards the continuous improvement of working conditions and the well-being of employees. Compliance with the ISO 45001: 2018 standard aims to ensure a safe and healthy working environment for all members of the organization.

Health, safety, and wellbeing (HSW) have been studied widely in different contexts and are associated with social, organisational, and human sustainability. However, there is limited research about HSW in retail that includes both workers and managers to offer a more holistic and inclusive perspective. To fill this gap, this exploratory and descriptive cross-sectional study employed a 21-item quantitative and 3-item qualitative online survey and engaged a representative sample of 271 workers and 109 managers/owners in Australia. The results showed retailers provide a reasonably adequate technical and social work environment, and workers perceive their job tasks as averagely challenging. Nevertheless, workers still experienced adverse HSW effects frequently, partially attributed to a poor organisational environment. Workers and managers were markedly aligned regarding the current HSW status in Australian retail and agreed that health and safety were not focal areas of their businesses. Worryingly, both groups viewed the unfavourable impacts of work as inescapable, indicating a commonly shared fatalistic perspective that does not align with sustainability practices. Although workers appreciated their employment-related benefits, they also acknowledged that their HSW was not fully supported, presenting unique opportunities for the workplace and policymakers to address such issues and support the economic and social sustainability of retailers.
